A picture is worth a thousand crabs

June 18, 2019

One of my all-time favorite photos. While living in Oregon, I worked for many years as news designer for the award-winning Portand Tribune newspaper and designed hundreds of front pages using unbelievable shots like this. Nothing beats compelling photography to support well-written reporting. Veteran photojournalist L.E. Baskow shot this while on assignment for a story about Oregon’s crabbing industry—Dungeness crabs to be exact. Here’s hoping L.E. had a pair of those rubber boots on!

Right: We did go crabbing (first time) with friends on the Oregon coast years ago and brought in this modest haul. We ate them all that same night around a campfire.
