Julie and I appreciate Maine’s history, coastal life, and anything seafood, seaside, nautical, and antique.
Casco Bay is home to the Calendar Islands — 365 islands that grace the confines of the bay.

Living a dream on the coast of Maine

November 18, 2024

Julie and I find it very rewarding to create quality items for others, and now we are fortunate to do this while living on the coast of Maine.

For 25 years, the workshop has focused on creating period, trade-style signs. We’ve worked with a range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, architects, restauranteurs, and homeowners, enhancing their interiors with vintage typographic designs. Our favorites are signs with a meaningful nod to personal passions or family history. Recently, we’ve expanded our scope of work with new products from Julie’s JV Turnings and Nutmegger Workshop’s Maine Coast Hand-Carved Whales.

It’s funny how things turn out unexpectedly. Years ago, a lengthy search for a large antique whale carving to hang above our fireplace yielded nothing, so I decided to carve a five-foot whale myself and fell in love with the creative process all over again. I haven’t stopped carving since!

Julie continues to sharpen her bowl-turning skills to award-winning levels. At Maine Wood 2024, her artistry was recognized by the woodworking community, and Julie continually seeks inspiration from world-class turners through advanced classes. Most importantly, she has discovered a sense of peace and centeredness she never expected.

Please read more about us under the About tab and feel free to look through our work. We hope you find it worth sharing. Thanks!
